The OCA-WHV Chapter and the Pace University Center for Community Action and Research continue to collaborate and sponsor the annual Meet The Candidates Forum at Pace’s Pleasantville Campus. Over 40 members of the Asian Pacific American community and the Pace student community participated with six political candidates. There was a lively, enthusiastic interchange during the question and answer session.
New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a double Pace University alumna, spoke onwhy we should vote.
Among theother candidates participating were two Westchester District Attorney candidates, Bruce Bendish and Tony Scarpino; two members of the New York StateAssembly, Tom Abinanti and Sandy Galef; and New York State Senate candidateAlison Boak.
“Pace University and the OCA Westchester and Hudson Valley Americans are committed to providing our community with information and opportunities to engage in the civic process,” said Heather Novak, Associate Director of Pace’s Center for Community Action and Research. “We have been encouraged by the increasing turnout, especially of students, to these events. Perhaps it is the silverlining in this contentious election season.”; OCA Westchester and Hudson Valley is one of the 100 Chapters and affiliates of OCANational. OCA is dedicated to advancing the social, political andeconomic well-being of over 20 million Asian Pacific Americans in the UnitedStates.
OCA seeks toadvocate for social justice, equal opportunity and fair treatment; Promotecivic participation, education and leadership; Advance coalition and community building; and foster cultural heritage.
