What We Do
Our Mission Statement
The Mission Of Our Organization Is To Advance The Social, Political And Economic Status Of Asian Pacific Americans In Westchester And Hudson Valley Communities And The U.S.
Founded in 1973, OCA is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization dedicated to securing the rights of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (APIAs) through initiatives at all levels of government. The OCA-Westchester and Hudson Valley Chapter (OCA-WHV) is one of over 50 chapters and affiliates across the United States that strives to develop leadership, community involvement, and civic participation for all APIAs.
As an award-winning advocacy organization and one of the oldest in the tristate region, our core mission is social advocacy on behalf of all Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, local and nationwide. We are proud to have played a major part in influencing national opinion in landmark cases such as that of Private Danny Chen and former NYC police officer Peter Liang. We work tirelessly to eliminate hate speech, lobby for criminal justice reform, and support national legislation regarding immigration reform and anti-hazing in the military.
We are constantly at work to develop new outreach programs in the large and growing APIA immigrant population in the region and for APIA seniors. Our thriving youth program recognizes gifted student leaders as well as talented youth facing hardship or need. Our advocacy-based events address the needs of the APIA population in the Hudson Valley, and we continue to build strong coalitions with sister organizations such as Families with Children from China (FCC), The India Center of Westchester, other regional OCA chapters, and other local and national advocacy organizations.
We, the Executive Board, are your voice for actions that count. We come from business, science, medicine, academia, the arts, human services, and range in age from young professionals to active retirees.
