Edward Lam

Daniel Lewis
Executive Vice President & VP of Advocacy
Dan is currently Vice president for Advocacy and Community Outreach. He feels it is important for OCA to represent all Americans of Asian descent and works to include them in OCA Westchester’s membership and on its board. He has been an OCA Westchester and Hudson Valley member since 2006 and a board member since 2010.
He is also involved with the New Bridges Coalition, a group of racially and culturally diverse organizations that tries to bring people of all backgrounds together. OCA is a founding partner in the New Bridges Coalition. Dan and his wife adopted two girls from China, which started his interest in Asian American advocacy and kindled a constant effort to show that Americans of Asian descent are as American as anyone else.
Dan believes strongly in the mission and direction of OCA, which was founded in 1973 as the Organization of Chinese Americans. As the AAPI community continued to grow and diversify, OCA understood the importance to reflect the needs of the community. In 2013, OCA rebranded to be OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates and advocate on behalf of all Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Any one Asian ethnic group is no more than 1.5% of the United States population, but all Americans of Asian descent together account for more than 7% of the population (more than 6.5% in Westchester), a percentage that helps us convince our political leaders of the importance of AAPI needs and goals.
Dan’s vision for the future is for OCA and other organizations to successfully fight anti-Asian hate by confronting it, by educating non-Asian Americans about Asian Americans, and by using our growing relationships with other groups to increase understanding and partnership across all of them.
