On Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans (WACA) held another extraordinary annual celebration for Lunar New Year at SUNY Purchase, Westchester, New York. The festival showcased the vibrant traditions and the spirit of togetherness that mark this joyful season. Members of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) - Westchester & Hudson Valley (WHV) chapter attended this event with a large representation as usual. Several youth members, Ashley, David, Sophie, Emily, and James, hosted a memorable booth that became a highlight of the festival.
The OCA-WHV booth drew in many children and families who are eager to learn more about the significance of the Lunar New Year. Our young volunteers showcased exceptional dedication and enthusiasm, entertained visitors with the art of origami, face painting, and the magic of balloon twisting. Nearly 200 balloon sculptures ranging from bunnies and swords to flowers were created and distributed with joy and laughter. The event was not only a celebration of the Lunar New Year but also an opportunity for OCA-WHV to share its goals and mission with the community. Through engaging activities and meaningful interactions, the booth served as a platform for cultural education and understanding, embodying the OCA's commitment to promoting the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans.
